Creating and editing config.ini on Windows Hosts (1754)

OS Emulator Some knowledge base articles tell me to edit the config.ini file, but I can't find it. Where is it? How do I create it if it doesn't exist? The config.ini file may not exist if you have not...

15.03.2016 3.0 Pre-alpha 3 is out!
Today was an important day for the Krita project! We entered feature freeze! That means that from now on until the release of Krita 3.0, which is planned for April 27th, we won’t be working on adding new features, but we’ll be fixing bugs, fixing bugs and fixing more bugs! If you want to help us identify and triage bugs, read this article: “Ways to Help Krita: Bug Triaging“. It’s the first of what’s intended to be a series of reference articles on ways to help Krita grow and become better and better. Since Krita 3.0 is frozen, we know exactly which Kickstart...
13.04.2008 Ariya Hidayat: Quick Start: using git (for Windows) with Google Code Project Hosting
wrote: Centralized works. It is just inferior. And like what I 80% folks reason. That is surely not the end of the world. You can try to polish your growing git skills with that subversion repository by using git-svn. The idea is that you use git and then, once a while, you place the code in the subversion repository. This has several extra advantages than doing git only. First, there is a backup done by Google to your repository. In addition, other developers that know only how to use friendly GUI tools, e.g. Google Code Search and this gives more exposure and promotes code sharing and reuse....
29.07.2008 Celeste Paul (seele): Implicit Save
One of the interesting things I learned at the last Ubuntu Developer Summit was the widespread use of implicit save in the GNOME environment. Implicit Save (or can also be called instant apply or instant editing) is when changes made by the user are automatically saved by the system without the need of the user confirming the changes by performing a Save or Apply action (implied to be so by the action of the user making the change). Explicit Save is when the user explicitly confirms the change by performing a Save or Apply action. In many cases, implicit save makes a lot of sense and makes the...
04.04.2010 Valorie Zimmerman (valorie): Installing Lucid beta -- Adventure Story or Buddy Movie?
It seemed so simple. I went to Kubuntu.org and downloaded and installed the update yesterday afternoon, no problem! This morning, KpackageKit informed me that I had over 1000 updates, and since I was busy with Alsachat, I decided to just let it go, although I was a bit apprehensive about the power situation. We had a wind advisory going on, and I know that disconnecting during updates is a very bad idea. With about 30 minutes to go, however, KpackageKit crashed! When I tried to use the console (as I should have in the first place), I couldn't because KpackageKit had crashed, and not cleanly qu...
19.11.2010 Ingo Malchow (neverendingo): A Matter of Control: The State of Input Device Support in KDE
Guest PostIf you look at the various changes from KDE 3 to KDE 4, two major trends emerge: unification and abstraction. Plasma, for example, unifies the various parts of the desktop and panel. Solid provides an abstraction layer that hides the details of device management from applications, while Phonon does the same for multimedia. Akonadi does both, providing a unified system for handling PIM data and creating an abstraction layer so PIM front-ends don't need to be concerned with the source or nature of the data they display. And of course the success of KDE 4 is not due solely to these tren...
08.08.2016 My experiences with SOCIS 2016
Hello dear readers! This post is a small synopsis of my experiences so far as a student in this years Summer of Code in Space, where I shall recount the whole adventure of integrating Sentinel-2 data into Marble Virtual Globe. Sentinel-2 data.So what exactly is this data, and why is it important to us? Well, Copernicus is the worlds largest single earth observation programme directed by the European Commission in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA). ESA is currently developing seven missions under the Sentinel programme. Among these is Sentinel-2, which provides high-resolutio...

02.03.2008 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): Plasma Packages
Here's another of the topics I was going to show in the screencast: Packages. The test case was getting Apple's Dashboard Widgets to work out of the box. The rules were that we couldn't adjust any of the Plasma infrastructure at all .. it has to all work with Packages and ScriptEngines. This meant changing and improving a few things in those parts of Plasma but the result was .. well, let's take a look:In the Add Widgets dialog the Install New Widgets button is now a menu, letting you choose between downloading from the Internet using GetHotNewStuff and DXS (where what you are about to see is ...
01.08.2016 Good Way to Share Configurations Between C++ / QML?
On Qt there’s the QSettings, while it has a lot of issues, it works well for c++ related code, but what if you wanted to also use the config for a QML Based application, that shares the C++ core with a Qt Widget based application? I’m on this dilema right now with subsurface and I want to hear a word of advise. For the few that don’t know yet, Subsurface is a dive logging application started by Linus Torvalds a few years ago, and that I stepped in to take care about the interface, which was rewritten mainly in Qt, but the Core is still in C. So we have a C-based struct that h...
12.09.2016 A circle closes…
At Desktop Summit 2011 in Berlin I did my first presentation on Wayland and presented the idea of Wayland to the KDE community and explained to the KDE community how we are going to port to Wayland. This year at QtCon in Berlin I was finally able to tell the KDE community that the port is finished and that our code is ready for testing. In 2011 I used a half hour slot to mostly present the differences between X11 and Wayland and why we want Wayland. In addition I presented some of the to be expected porting steps and what we will have in the end. This year I only used a 10 min lightning talk s...
