08.11.2008 Jos Poortvliet: KOffice sprint 2008
The KOffice team will have a meeting this weekend in the KDAB offices in Berlin. Last year, I was unable to attend, but this year - I'm there again. And looking forward to it. I'm writing this blog in the train, so forgive occasional spelling mistakes, btw. The German country can be distracting ;-)There seem to be some big plans. Not just in the technical area, like two years ago when KOffice was busily working on infrastructural tasks. This year, a first release of the 'new stuff' is imminent, so the focus has been moved to polishing the release and discussing the marketing surrounding it. As...
09.11.2008 Cyrille Berger: KOffice Release Sprint Day 1
So today was the main day of KDE Events. It started with Sebas explaining us the new marketing vision of KDE, where KDE is presented as the KDE Project developing applications, which includes, among other things, a Desktop and an Office Suite (called KOffice...). Then our four marketing gurou went into an isolated rooms to prepare the magic recipes for the message of the next release.Since Ellen from the usability group was here, and since we had a lot of things to discuss about user interraction, we spend most of the day going applications after applications, with a strong focus on our docker...

11.05.2008 Cyrille Berger: Libre Graphics Meeting 2008 : Day 3
For the third day of Digikam. This picture was taken near the conference center, when we tried to go to a Japanese garden.the Gimp UI to improve its usability, there are some nice ideas on how to minimize the space lost by dockers, toolbars and toolboxes. Then Andy Fitzsimon made a demonstration of the new stuff in Blender to do photographic retouch. I had to miss the talk about the Gimp.
13.05.2008 Wade Olson: Identifying users
For those reading the Planet consistently as of late, you’ll notice that Celeste has been on a tear. She’s discussed use scenarios and use cases, user types (Okular). Now, as a member of the elusive Marketing Working Group, remember that we’ve always declared ourselves “participative” - meaning we welcome people to ask questions and look for guidance/help/strategy. It’s great to see community members like Celeste go beyond “participative” and find ways to positively and constructively engage groups without waiting. The nefarious MWG could pro...
17.05.2008 Jonathan Riddell (riddell): FOSSCamp in Prague
I took the train to Prague, much more relaxed and environmentally friendly than flying. Went through Berlin where I found FOSSCamp, the Canonical organised general free software unprogrammed conference. A good showing from KDE with Jos of Strigi, Inge of KOffice/Marble, Lydia of Amarok, Robert of Konsole and Peter of Adept. The local Novell people came along too, with Lubos of KWin doing a valiant job of running the KDE and Gnome Collaboration sessions. We had sessions on KDE, Free Music, Mobile interfaces, OpenOffice, upstream bug reporting, packagekit and many more. Next week is UDS, down to...
07.04.2008 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): in france
I'm in France right now. Toulouse, to be more precise. Kevin Ottens' (you may know him from Solid in KDE4) living room to be even more precise. It's 6:30 in the morning and Kevin and I are sitting here getting some work done early in the day so that we may go out a bit earlier in the afternoon to enjoy some of the city.I've already taken an ungodly number of pictures in my first day here as I play with my new toy: a Cannon EOS 400. I've never actually owned an SLR before, and there's much to learn, but I'm having fun with it. It's been great so far traveling with P.: we was awesome on the flig...

15.03.2008 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): friday
Ah, Friday: such a perfect title for a blog entry: accurate (it is Friday, after all) but utterly useless (it says nothing about that which I may or may not write about). It's also a song title, as Ice Cube might be inclined to say: "You know it ain't no stoppin all tha doggs I'm droppin". Yeah.Since I get asked from time to time what the aim for Plasma at our next grand stop on the release roadway (4.1 in July-ish) is, I decided to see what Google might say. Turns out Google's slipping: it's the second link for the query "Plasma 4.1 roadmap" that would take you where you want to go.The conten...
