17.09.2008 Mark Kretschmann (markey): Whatever happened to Coverity?
Once upon a time we had the whole of KDE included in Coverity's code quality checker, which they kindly offer (offered?) for free to FOSS projects. Coverity's analysis is tremendously helpful in finding really twisted bugs, and has in the past helped to fix countless complicated issues in KDE code. All was fine until 2008-Apr-24, when the scan apparently stopped for technical reasons. The last I heard of the problem was that Dirk is still waiting for a reply from them. We Amarok guys are really keen on getting our code checked again. Not wanting to sit idly and wait, I have in the meantime a...
14.12.2015 AppStream/DEP-11 fully supported in Debian now!
Back in 2011, when the AppStream meeting in Nürnberg had just happened, I published the DEP-11 (Debian Extension Project 11) draft together with Michael Vogt and Julian Andres Klode, as an approach to implement AppStream in Debian. Back then, the FTPMasters team rejected the suggestion to use the official XML specification, and so the DEP-11 specification was adapted to be based on YAML instead of XML. This wasn’t much of a big deal, since the initial design of DEP-11 was to be a superset of the AppStream specification, so it wasn’t meant to be exactly like AppStream anyway. A...
11.07.2016 Multi-screen woes in Plasma 5.7
With Plasma 5.7 we promised improved multi-screen support. While we achieved that, some users are still experiencing issues. This is unfortunate and our users have all the reasons to be disappointed with us. We are working very hard to fix the issues which have been reported to us since the release. But there are many situations where users blame us for issues not under our control. With this blog post I want to describe some of the problems we got reported and explain them. Display hardware key not working In Bug 365147 a user reported that the notebook hardware key does not work. This is rat...
14.11.2016 Interview with Katharina
Could you tell us something about yourself? My name is Katharina and I am from Germany. I study in Cologne and share a flat with my fiancé and three rabbits. Do you paint professionally, as a hobby artist, or both? Drawing is mainly a hobby for me, to express myself and getting my thoughts together. But from time to time I do a little freelance work, mostly fanart of games. What genre(s) do you work in? My works are mainly fantasy inspired, and I try to communicate through them. I like to address topics such as environmental protection and animal rights. For me, perfect fantasy drawings ...
23.07.2018 Interview with Takiro Ryo
Could you tell us something about yourself? Well, I’m not really sure what to tell about myself. My name is Takiro, I’m from Germany and I’ve liked drawing since I was a little kid although it wasn’t very easy because I never had decent paper and pens. Art wasn’t seen as an actual thing in my family, I guess. I started to take art more serious as a teenager, when I was 14 or 15, with traditional art. Everyone was into Mangas and Anime back then and so was I. I started out with poorly drawn fanarts of my favorite anthropomorphic characters before doing my own thin...

22.05.2008 Maksim Orlovich (SadEagle): News from the land of Konquerors
A bunch of exciting things have happened to Konqueror in preparation for 4.1 Beta 1 this weekend. First of all, KHTML guru Germain Garand has committed the bulk of the designMode/contentEditable editing code. It's not 100% done yet, but it's a monumental amount of work, and it should enable the various rich-text editor apps to work in KHTML. In the UI land, Eduardo Elvira has committed some fancy session management features such as crash recovery. But, I am gonna be bit a bit selfish, and mostly talk about what I did: my performance/bytecode version of KJS - KJS "Frostbyte" - is now in kdelib...
21.05.2008 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): krunner quicky update
I put together a quick screencast to update one of our artists on what's happened to krunner in the last day. It's not really meant as a promo piece, but you get to hear me meander about through the new things that popped up in the last 24 hours so I figured maybe one or two of you might want to check it out as well. Still lots of polishing left, particularly in the artwork dpt.
25.01.2016 New Year Calligra Words Sprint
When the streets are covered with snow and ice in many parts of Europe, it’s a good time to sit inside in front of our computers and to improve that software we are sharing here with each other. With the porting of the apps, plugins & libs part of Calligra to Qt5/KF5 roughly done towards the end of 2015, it is now also a good time to work on features again. Given a few Calligra developers interested in improving the text-handling modules, we looked into doing a developer meeting (a.k.a. “sprint”) on that quickly, and given January being a good candidate for snow and ice o...
