System & Utilities

Today is the release day KEXI 3.1.0 Beta & its frameworks: https://community.kde.org/Kexi/Releases#3.1.0_Beta_1 Since version 3 it becomes KEXI not Kexi to suggest becoming a standalone app. It's standalone status includes being first-class app also outside of KDE Plasma.

08.10.2008 Adriaan de Groot (adridg): Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall
[[ Yes, it's Violent Femmes Reference Time again! ]] I've gone and set up some Mercurial repositories and clones and whatnot now, some of which are publicly accessible, some which are local to my workstation, and somewhat to my surprise I can see the season's cycle [[ XTC reference time! ]] that Aaron, Dirk and Sebas talked about show up in a fairly natural fashion. And I've come up with another mixed metaphor, that development life is a highway [[ Tom Petty? ]] and you can ride it all night long, but there must be some way to get out .. nah. I'll just explain later. The top three repositor...
31.05.2012 Calligra 2.5 Alpha Released
The Calligra team is proud and pleased to announce the alpha release of version 2.5 of the Calligra Suite. Since the first release of Calligra the team has worked using a new development model where new features are only introduced into the main sources (known as “master”) after a feature or bugfix is “finished” in some sense. The actual development is done in a branch which is kept separate from the main sources while the code is still immature. This allows us to use shorter development cycles and shorter alpha and beta periods since the master branch should in princip...
18.04.2013 ownCloud News app alpha-2 release (guest post by Bernhard Posselt)
In this post I hand over the floor to the co-maintainer of the News app Bernhard Posselt (Raydiation). Bernhard is a software engineering student at University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien. As an intern at ownCloud inc., he is the man behind the new ownCloud appframework. He is also involved in the coding and the design of the Notes app and in lots of user and devs documentation for ownCloud. This is my first real report on the progress of the News app (I’ve escaped Alessandro’s requests to write a blog post quite a few times already :D). I’ve joined as a co-maintainer...

This means that the calligra/2.6 branch has been created andfrom now on Calligra 2.6 will only see bufixes but no new features. The final release of 2.6 is planned within a month. News in This Release As expected, this release has a number of new features that were not ready in time for the alpha release. Here are some of the most important ones: Plan, the project management application, has updated scheduling information, improved scheduling granularity, improved performance charts, impro...

22.08.2013 Porting Calligra to Qt5
It was April 14th, 2006, that we ported KSpread to Qt4... Sponsored by Jolla, who wants to use Calligra as the core for the Sailfish document viewer, me and Camilla spent some time in the past couple of weeks on porting the Calligra core to Qt5. We're not done, but... Calligra Words starts and you can type stuff in it: It was quite difficult, but that's not because porting to Qt5 is so difficult, it's because KDE Frameworks 5 isn't nearly done yet, and because we needed to port to Qt 5.1, not the upcoming (later this year) Qt 5.2. So what we did was: Create a fake library with all the KDE he...
17.11.2009 Jason McDonald (Qt Development Frameworks): Qt 4.6.0 Release Candidate 1
Today, we move another step closer to the Qt 4.6.0 release, with the shipping of the first release candidate. This release improves on 4.6.0 Beta 1 by adding yet more bug fixes and documentation improvements, fine-tuning a couple of the new API’s, and incorporating various feedback from you, Qt’s community of developers and users. The Release Candidate is very close to what the final 4.6.0 release will be. The main aim of the RC is to solicit feedback from the community and catch any remaining high priority bugs before the final release, which we expect will happen before the end o...
11.05.2010 Jaros
No, we do not skip March, for Kexi it was just too silent month to blog about it alone Here we go (based on identi.ca notes): Adam now understands the koodf library, exporting a report from Kexi into a spreadsheet can be done 'the right way' New address of the Kexi Fan Club on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/kexi.project Follow-up on the SQLite the secure delete thing: Oh boy, the guys rock - they have implemented all my requests for 3.6.23. We're going to recommend this version at least. Autofield widget and layouts will be disabled in Kexi 2.2 Fixed visibility of form widget propertie...
28.11.2011 Fruits of CSS2: Eating Our Own Dog Food
It may seem obvious but eating our own dog food can definitely be good for your project's condition. Especially when it is maturing over time. How many testers can we have and how many personas for your user-centered design can we define and maintain? Usually just a few with the actual resources. Is only fulfilling needs of more or less fictional actors focusing on few use cases a good direction? Or does it put our vigilance to sleep? Well, I am convinced you and your co-workers can be good actors if you actually start using your software more. Click to open (PDF) In the CSS2 presentation I pu...
19.10.2015 KWrite on Mac – Application Bundle
Hi, after one week of patching frameworks (and KWrite/Kate), the first success can be seen: a kind of working application bundle for KWrite. Still no icons, need to set icon theme + search paths right and bundle that, too, but need to investigate more how the icon lookup works. You can build the stuff on your own just following kate.git/mac.txt and calling once the macdeployqt tool afterwards on the /Applications/KDE/kwrite.app bundle (with -dmg to get the disk image file). For Kate, the macdeployqt still misses an additional switch to deploy own plugins in addition, will add that in the...
