29.04.2008 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): .. and all the king's men
Unlike poor old Humpty Dumpty, Plasma was able to put itself back together again. Over the weekend the poor thing devolved into a pile of mush. Thanks to the amazing dedication and work of the Plasma developers, however, it's back to functional and we can start making forward progress again. While
17.05.2016 Embrace Open Source culture: the 5 common transformations.
Article originally published at Linedin on May 15th 2016. This is a story of what I have lived or witnessed a few times so far. A story of an organization that used to consume, develop and ship proprietary software for many years. At some point in time, management took the decision of using Open Source. Like in most cases, the decision was forced by its customers, providers, competitors... and by numbers.A painful but unavoidable transformation was required.1.- Open Source consumerEngineers had to learn a new system, adapt or re-write those features that used to made the organization unique, t...
08.08.2016 My experiences with SOCIS 2016
Hello dear readers! This post is a small synopsis of my experiences so far as a student in this years Summer of Code in Space, where I shall recount the whole adventure of integrating Sentinel-2 data into Marble Virtual Globe. Sentinel-2 data.So what exactly is this data, and why is it important to us? Well, Copernicus is the worlds largest single earth observation programme directed by the European Commission in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA). ESA is currently developing seven missions under the Sentinel programme. Among these is Sentinel-2, which provides high-resolutio...
14.11.2016 Interview with Katharina
Could you tell us something about yourself? My name is Katharina and I am from Germany. I study in Cologne and share a flat with my fiancé and three rabbits. Do you paint professionally, as a hobby artist, or both? Drawing is mainly a hobby for me, to express myself and getting my thoughts together. But from time to time I do a little freelance work, mostly fanart of games. What genre(s) do you work in? My works are mainly fantasy inspired, and I try to communicate through them. I like to address topics such as environmental protection and animal rights. For me, perfect fantasy drawings ...
22.04.2018 Exploring Contributors Centrality Over Time
At the end of my previous post we concluded with yet another question. Indeed, on the 2017 KDEPIM contributor network we found out that Christian Mollekopf while being a very consistent committer didn't appear as centrality as we would expect. Yet from the topology he seemed to act as a bridge between the core contributors and contributors with a very low centrality. This time we'll try to look into this and figure out what might be going on. My first attempt at this was to try to look into the contributor network on a different time period and see how it goes. If we take two snapshots of the ...

01.03.2008 VMsafe reactions: revolutionary, tantalizing, exciting, the right thing
More reactions about the VMsafe program introduced at Wednesday's VMworld Europe keynote. The reactions are good, especially considering most people haven't seen the actual technology yet. I think everyone is very conscious that opening up access to the hypervisor layer...
28.09.2015 Interview with Anusha Bhanded
Could you tell us something about yourself? My name is Ana, I live in India and I love doing digital art, at least as a beginner. I’m 13 years old. Do you paint professionally, as a hobby artist, or both? Well, I’m just a hobby artist, can’t say “artist” but I like art. Whose work inspires you most — who are your role models as an  artist? Actually my role model, not totally as an artist, but it’s Scott Cawthon and team, the creator of FNAF. i like the art he did in the game and the effects. Also Markus Persson and team, the pixel artist. What ma...
10.11.2015 Amarok is slowly catching up
I was previously working on Macaw-Movies (already in the KDE Community) and, after a while, I felt really alone and wasn’t so sure if a movie organizer still made sense in this all-connected time, where you can stream whatever you are interested in. I finally went to the Amarok guys, cloned the source and began to help to port it to the Frameworks. The plan Aroonav (roguedragon) did his GSoC on this topic [1]. And I catch up at the end of August. What is the plan? In theory it was this: Remove all KDELibs from the dependencies Port the CMakeLists.txt Get to 100% of build Start the prog...
14.12.2015 AppStream/DEP-11 fully supported in Debian now!
Back in 2011, when the AppStream meeting in Nürnberg had just happened, I published the DEP-11 (Debian Extension Project 11) draft together with Michael Vogt and Julian Andres Klode, as an approach to implement AppStream in Debian. Back then, the FTPMasters team rejected the suggestion to use the official XML specification, and so the DEP-11 specification was adapted to be based on YAML instead of XML. This wasn’t much of a big deal, since the initial design of DEP-11 was to be a superset of the AppStream specification, so it wasn’t meant to be exactly like AppStream anyway. A...
