PyKDE

System & Utilities

Bindings are implemented as a set of Python modules that correspond to libraries in the kdelibs package. PyKDE supports nearly all classes and methods in these libraries.

22.04.2008 Troy Unrau: Life is full of acronyms
So life is settling down into a gentle lull; a calm between the storms that are school and summer work. This gives me a chance to finally blog about a few things that are going on, all interesting to me but only some interesting to you, my captive audience. :) As I began to write this article, I found that my life is filled with many, many acronyms. So I thought I'd share them with you :)First, I posted several weeks ago that I ran for president of the University of Manitoba's Student Union (UMSU). I lost, but got a respectable 25% of the popular vote. Most Americans will now be thinking to th...
30.08.2008 Jonathan Riddell (riddell): Ubuntu Developer Week
Ubuntu Developer Week happens on IRC next week. I'll be giving my introduction to PyKDE with a WebKit web browser tutorial. There's plenty more interesting talks, see you there.
11.07.2008 Cyrille Berger: Kross/KDEBindings Meeting in Berlin : Day 1
This week-end, I am attending the Kross/KDEBindings meeting at the KDAB office in Berlin, organized by Thomas Moenicke (working on PHP bindings), with Mauro Iazzi (working on LUA bindings), Sebastian Sauer (main author of Kross), Arno Rehn (working on Smoke and on Mono bindings), Richard Dale (working on Ruby and Mono bindings), Simon Edwards (working on PyKDE bindings), Aleix Pol (working on Kross for KDevelop), and me (as Kross tester, and Kross/Ruby author).Sorry, no picture yet, since I forgot to take my card reader, but they will come later :) This morning we discussed how to improve coll...
07.08.2008 Jonathan Riddell (riddell): This week in Kubuntu
Haven't blogged for a while, so here's some of the changes that have happened in Kubuntu recently. I finally found some time for the KDE port of system-config-printer, still far from feature parity with the Gnome version and needs plenty of tidying up but should be usable. mornfall got back to hacking on Adept 3 featuring super fast xapian search. In other packaging news the Dist Upgrade tool got a pyQt 4 port. And gdebi, the .deb installer, got a pyKDE 4 port. We're turning on the Apport crash handler for KDE programmes. Unlike the KDE crash handler it creates a full backtrace with debug ...
08.03.2009 Adriaan de Groot (adridg): Networking Around the World
I met up with Jonathan in Amsterdam on Thursday, at gate D43. We were both booked on the afternoon flight to Abuja and Kano, so we talked shop, drank coffee and considered what we had got ourselves in to. In Abuja we realised that 38 degrees is quite warm indeed, compared to the 6 and rain in Amsterdam; the air conditioning kept it down to a nice 30 inside. In Kano we realised that we had got ourselves into the country (after getting past the customs officer who wondered why we knew the names of three cities: Abuja, Kano, Sokoto) and when a dark blue "part of the solution" T-shirt dived in f...
19.03.2011 Finally upgraded to openSuSE 11.4
Hi! Today (yesterday) I have upgraded my openSuSE to version 11.4, I had been using openSuSE 11.3 before. Some days before I had screwed up some stuff with kernel updates and my boot partition (it was too small), removed stuff manually from /boot, used chroot environment, reinstalled kernel-stuff, not perfect at all, today again some problems afte the distribution upgrade, but after reinstalling the kernel and grup from chroot-environment (using an openSuSE 11.3+KDE Live CD), it worked. But since a few days (since the last 11.3 update with /boot ec.) it asks me for my luks-passphrase multiple ...

19.01.2010 Richard Dale: KDE Bindings in KDE 4.5
Aaron wrote an interesting blog about scripting and dynamic language support, and I thought I'd like to add some comments of my own about where we're heading with non-C++ languages in the KDE 4.5 SC release. Language bindings are infrastructure, and they are a kind of compiler technology. We take the C++ headers and compile them into a form that allows the C++ methods to be called in other languages. Infrastructure technologies only really succeed when they become 'boring and invisible'. For instance, there are many products which are based on the Linux kernel, but Linux is so 'boring and invi...
