Netrunner Desktop 16.09 "Avalon" Linux OS Is Out with Kernel 4.7, KDE Plasma 5.7
Based on the latest software repositories from Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie," Netrunner Desktop 16.09 "Avalon" is powered by the Linux 4.7 kernel and built on top of the KDE Plasma 5.7.5 desktop environment, which is accompanied by the KDE Applications 16.08 software suite, KDE Frameworks 5.26.0 collection of add-on libraries for Qt 5.7. However, users can update to KDE Plasma 5.8.2 LTS and KDE Frameworks 5.27.0. A complete tutorial for upgrading your new Netrunner Desktop 16.09 "Avalon" installation to the KDE Plasma 5.8.2 LTS desktop environment and KDE Frameworks 5.27.0 is provided on the distribution's homepage.

02.05.2010 Joseph Wenninger: This is again a littlebit of a rant and hopefully a head up for people working on that stuff to eventually get the their stuff somehow working for KDE 4.5 and the next kernel releases. Most of the time, I am working on windows nowadays during my day work (research). I am only using linux on my netbook (AsusEEE 1101HA) for some system administration and webdesign tasks, but that more and more starts to suck. I know I am partly to blame my self, because I am using openuse factory and kde unstable from the OBS.Things that suck:*) I have to disable ACPI (grub acpi=off) with recent kernels (2....14.11.2013 [Howto] Acting on Inotify events in a shell with inotifywait Inotify is a subsystem of the Linux kernl monitoring file systems and reporting changes to user space appliactions. In a shell like Bash, the tool inotifywait can be used to call scripts or other actions based on Inotify events. The Kernel subsystem Inotfiy monitors file systems for events like access to files, changes, creations, deletions. User space programs like a desktop search engine can connect to Inotify, and ask it to send reports about the event X on file Y. If the event takes place, Inotify reports to the user space program, which for example re-indexes the file again. For shell env...17.12.2018 KDE ports on FreeBSD 12 (amd64) FreeBSD 12 was released last week. I’m in the process of rebuilding my main workstation to all-flash (which means backups, disentangling ZFS pools, etc. etc.) and in the meantime installed 12-R to an older i3 I had lying around. KDE Applications 18.12 were released last thursday. Those are in ports, but haven’t made it around to the official packages yet. So here are some notes on almost-current KDE on almost-current FreeBSD: Installing modern KDE: from a freshly installed 12-R system, getting to a KDE Plasma desktop is a matter of installing two metapackages: pkg install xorg kde5...13.05.2008 Ariya Hidayat: HTML5 video with reflection Poor leaked, our HTML5 Media ninja has no other choice but to reveal QtWebKit, thanks to Tor Arne. As he wrote there, basically we use Phonon, the CSS reflections, I decided to combine both the video and the reflection effect. Of course, it just works (click-to-enlarge): available elsewhere. Bear in mind that this probably does not work in many common browsers like Firefox 2. You need the next-gen web browsers, try Safari 3.1. You can even use WebKit trunk. Unless you want to experience the hassle of building QtWebKit yourself (hint: it is not that difficult actually), the best bet is of cours...13.04.2008 Ariya Hidayat: Quick Start: using git (for Windows) with Google Code Project Hosting wrote: Centralized works. It is just inferior. And like what I 80% folks reason. That is surely not the end of the world. You can try to polish your growing git skills with that subversion repository by using git-svn. The idea is that you use git and then, once a while, you place the code in the subversion repository. This has several extra advantages than doing git only. First, there is a backup done by Google to your repository. In addition, other developers that know only how to use friendly GUI tools, e.g. Google Code Search and this gives more exposure and promotes code sharing and reuse....24.04.2008 Вышел Linux-дистрибутив Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" Сегодня, точно в срок, было объявлено об официальном релизе новой версии популярного Linux-дистрибутива для настольных ПК -- Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" LTS Desktop...03.04.2008 Roland Wolters (liquidat): Short Tip: A simple udev rule for burn rights on /dev/sg* 05.04.2008 Richard Dale: Ruby Clock Plasma Applet We can't have too many plasma clocks in KDE4, and I'm pleased to say that the Ruby analog clock is now working pretty well. I've been using it to time brewing a pot of tea this morning, and there is certainly a more delicate taste to Earl Grey timed with a Ruby clock as opposed the the slightly coarser and more acidic flavour that using a C++ based clock applet as a timer, can give to your cuppa. The clock code is in playground/base/plasma/applets/ruby-clock, and I'll explain how it all fits together. It has a Qt designer .ui file, that is identical to the one used by the C++ analog clock, for...31.10.2008 Linux-дистрибутив Ubuntu обновился до 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" Сегодня, 30 октября, состоялся официальной релиз новой версии одного из популярнейших Linux-дистрибутивов для десктопов -- Ubuntu Linux 8.10 (Desktop Edition)...14.11.2013 Responsible Evolution Plasma Desktop running on top of Qt 5 and KDE Frameworks 5 Exciting times. I am working on the lower-right corner of the desktop right now, and thought I could give a quick visual update of progress there, as well as some sense of direction where we’re heading, how the user interface evolves, Plasma’s new architecture, and underlying software stack and the device spectrum. A whole mouthful, so grab a cup of tea. Two areas in particular are catching my attention these days, the notification area (“system tray”, that row of icons which show you the status of all kinds of ...
