02.10.2018 KDevelop 5.3 beta 1 released
KDevelop 5.3 beta 1 released We are happy to announce the release of KDevelop 5.3 Beta, almost exactly twenty years after KDevelop's first official release! Here's a brief summary of what's new in this version: Analyzers With 5.1, KDevelop got a new menu entry Analyzer which features a set of actions to work with analyzer-like plugins. For 5.2 the runtime analyzer Heaptrack and the static analyzer cppcheck have been added. During the last 5.3 development phase, we added another analyzer plugin which now is shipped to you out of the box: Clazy Clazy is a clang analyzer plugin specialized on Qt-...
09.04.2008 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): RE: Nine Improvements Needed in KDE, by Bruce Byfield
Dear Bruce ..Thanks for trying KDE 4.0.x and then writing about it. It's always great when people try something for a while and then give their honest opinion on things. I'd like to address some of the issues you raise, so let's start where you started:"A more customizable panel": the issues you note, from resizing and moving to not covering the toolbox, are already addressed in svn with the exception of autohiding which is currently partially working in a WIP patch. So this set of issues is more past tense than anything at this point. There remain some burrs to work out, such as not all widge...
05.01.2016 Use ownCloud provided Packages, then VM, then Zip, no distro packages.
There are many ways to install and run ownCloud. What is best depends on your situation but some general rules of thumb can be given.Use ownCloud Provided Packages If You CanThe best solution from a security and stability point of view are the official ownCloud packages, provided you have the basic know-how needed to run your own Linux server.Packages give you the advantage of a relatively clean and easy upgrade process, with the ownCloud team taking care of any special steps which have to be taken. The upgrade itself will still have to be kicked off by the system administrator (see our latest...
23.01.2009 Alexander Dymo (adymo): KDE 4.2 Review From Inside Out. Part 2: Applications
PrologueI didn't expect the previous part of this review to be so popular. Huge thanks to everyone who read, linked and commented it!I know I promised you to write about KDE4 applications, so without further ado, here is the continuation.Table of Contents:DolphinKonquerorKonsoleKMailAkregatorKGetGwenview and OkularGrand ConclusionDolphinI'd like to start my applications review with Dolphin, as it was the most prominent change in the applications area. It was planned to make Dolphin the default file manager since KDE3, but I never tried it then. I got Dolphin with 4.1 and started using it.Proba...
04.07.2009 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): Plasma in KDE 4.4
Each release of Plasma over the 18 months since its debut release has marked an impressive step forward in its evolution. We are planning on making 4.4, our second anniversary release coming in January 2010, more of the same in that regard. We recently had our Plasma release cycle planning meeting, and here is our list of goals for central Plasma technologies in 4.4 (in no particular order):Improve kiosk based lock down and deployment management: We are communicating with some large deployments in Europe about the process of migrating from KDE 3 to KDE 4 and how we can make KDE 4's desktop she...
14.11.2013 Responsible Evolution
Plasma Desktop running on top of Qt 5 and KDE Frameworks 5 Exciting times. I am working on the lower-right corner of the desktop right now, and thought I could give a quick visual update of progress there, as well as some sense of direction where we’re heading, how the user interface evolves, Plasma’s new architecture, and underlying software stack and the device spectrum. A whole mouthful, so grab a cup of tea. Two areas in particular are catching my attention these days, the notification area (“system tray”, that row of icons which show you the status of all kinds of ...
25.08.2015 GSoC 2015 wrap up
As time flies by, we are closer and closer to the end of this year's Google Summer of Code. I had a lot of fun and learned many things this summer thanks to the program. My main field of interest is computer graphics and rendering, so working on a project focused on this was a great challenge for me, that I think I barely - due to some unexpected events - but somehow, overcame.Speaking of what I learned, there are just too many things to list, but if I have to name three things, I would say: Qt, the basic geography and the math related to it, but there are so many more besi...
04.01.2010 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): ++2009;
The first decade of the millennium (by our calendars, anyways :) is officially over and we're all going to have to get used to writing 2010 on things. I spent the last couple of weeks of 2009 taking a few personal days around the holidays as well as considering where we, KDE, have been and where we might be going. I wrote some notes at the end of it, and I thought I'd share some of it with all of you.We accomplished a lot in the last year, both as a community as well as personally. I'll leave the personal events, positive and difficult, to those who were involved, but try and cover some of the...
20.12.2012 KDAB contributions to Qt 5.0 (part 1)
Yesterday Qt 5.0.0 was released. It is the culmination of huge amounts of work since the announcement of and start of Qt 5′s development. This is the first major release of Qt since the launch of open governance in Autumn 2011, when it became much easier for external individuals and companies to contribute to Qt in terms of code submissions, code reviews, design, and maintenance. As KDAB benefits from a successful Qt, we have made investments to contribute to the long-term health of the frameworks. There are over 1100 commits from KDAB in the qtbase git repository alone, and many others ...
25.09.2017 KTextEditorPreviewPlugin 0.1.0
KTextEditorPreviewPlugin 0.1.0 has been released. The KTextEditorPreviewPlugin software provides the KTextEditor Document Preview Plugin, a plugin for the editor Kate, the IDE KDevelop, or other software using the KTextEditor framework. The plugin enables a live preview of the currently edited text document in the final format. For the display it uses the KParts plugin which is currently selected as the preferred one for the MIME type of the document. If there is no matching KParts plugin, no preview is possible.
