Win a MacBook Air. "My switch to VMware Fusion" video contest

OS Emulator Are you a switcher? No, not a switcher from PC to Mac, a group that includes Yours Truly, but that's a story for another time. Are you a Mac user that has switched from another method of running Linux or...

22.07.2008 Roland Wolters (liquidat): Nvidia on KDE 4.1: a greedy problem
KDE4Daily in a virtual machine. It is snappy, fast and simply works. However, if you install it afterwards on a real machine, you might be surprised to see that KDE 4.1 can also be sluggish, slow, sticky and whatnot - although it is running on a power machine. The reason behind that is most likely the graphics hardware: a NVIDIA card. The proprietary drivers for these cards have numerous 2D problems and especially a set of problems with the newest Qt/KDE. This wouldn’t be a major problem if the Open Source community would be supported by the company to develop free drivers - like AMD/ATI...
20.03.2010 Ariya Hidayat: morphing clock
As I promised before, here is a fresh X2 example. Those who attended Bossa Conference 10 and followed my talk are lucky to have seen it for the first time there. In fact, this example is ridiculously simple that I am not surprised at all if somebody has done this ages ago. Let's start with a screen capture, or two: Basically the above shows an analog and digital clock running on my Nokia N900, hardly a shock. However, the fun part is when you switch the clock from analog to digital and vice versa. Check out this video, or watch directly on YouTube, courtesy of Signor Portale from Nokia/Qt, sh...

13.05.2008 Ariya Hidayat: HTML5 video with reflection
Poor leaked, our HTML5 Media ninja has no other choice but to reveal QtWebKit, thanks to Tor Arne. As he wrote there, basically we use Phonon, the CSS reflections, I decided to combine both the video and the reflection effect. Of course, it just works (click-to-enlarge): available elsewhere. Bear in mind that this probably does not work in many common browsers like Firefox 2. You need the next-gen web browsers, try Safari 3.1. You can even use WebKit trunk. Unless you want to experience the hassle of building QtWebKit yourself (hint: it is not that difficult actually), the best bet is of cours...
13.04.2008 Ariya Hidayat: Quick Start: using git (for Windows) with Google Code Project Hosting
wrote: Centralized works. It is just inferior. And like what I 80% folks reason. That is surely not the end of the world. You can try to polish your growing git skills with that subversion repository by using git-svn. The idea is that you use git and then, once a while, you place the code in the subversion repository. This has several extra advantages than doing git only. First, there is a backup done by Google to your repository. In addition, other developers that know only how to use friendly GUI tools, e.g. Google Code Search and this gives more exposure and promotes code sharing and reuse....
11.01.2009 Alexander Dymo (adymo): KDE 4.2 Review From Inside Out. Part 1
PrologueIt's probably the first time in my life when I'm writing a post with a word "Review", but looks like it's a perfect time to start doing that. Right now I desperately need to tell the world about KDE4, or to be precise, soon to be released KDE 4.2. This is going to be the first "real" release targeted not only at KDE developers and enthusiasts, but at general public - all the people who eagerly waited for the next KDE desktop to arrive. With this review I'd like to let people know that the KDE 4 is ready and to once again celebrate the hard work of all the people who put tremendous effo...
05.03.2010 Jason A. Donenfeld (zx2c4/jdonenfeld): Trying to Leave Catch-All E-Mail Behind
For the last 10 years, I’ve used zx2c4.com for my e-mail, and have had it forwarded to whichever provider I was using, which most recently happens to be gmail. Ten years ago, it seemed like a good idea to have “catch-all” e-mail, whereby anything you put at zx2c4.com would be sent to me. This was great for a while, and on every site I would visit that required an e-mail, I’d give them a new one. JasonHatesWhenNikeDotComSpamsHim [at] zx2c4.com I would use for nike.com, and then I’d know for certain if they ever sold my e-mail address. For more serious sites, I woul...
27.07.2008 Diederik van der Boor: KMess 2.0 progress, personal stuff
With this blog entry I'd like to inform you all about the amazing progress we're making with KMess 2.0. It's been a bit quiet on the blogging side, but development surely didn't stop. The development timeline at In the screenshot you see the ink receiving and tabbed chat in action.KMess on WindowsThere is experimental support for Windows as well:steps to install. Hence the reason we still call it experimental. Everything seams to work though.Personal stuffI didn't always find time to work on KMess in the past few months. If you have a daily job as web developer, not all evenings are easily spe...
22.06.2015 Penultimate Kickstarter voting results
Two weeks before voting closes we’re at a response rate of 91.38%: 604 of 661 possible votes. If you’re eligible to vote and haven’t done so yet, you have until 10am CEST on July 6 to make the response rate even higher! Note that no-award backers who have pledged 15 euros or more can also vote, though they haven’t received a survey. If this is you, please send mail to irina@krita.org, either with your vote or to ask for the list. We collected enough pledges for nine whole stretch goals. Two 1500-euro backers each added a stretch goal of their own: one already in the lis...
