Leader in intelligent traffic systems chooses the QNX Neutrino OS for its ACTROS family of traffic light controllers.

Nuremburg, Embedded World 2016, Hall 4, Booth 534 mdash; February 23 mdash; QNX Software Systems Limited, a subsidiary of BlackBerry Limited, today announced that SWARCO TRAFFIC SYSTEMS GmbH has chosen the QNXreg; Neutrinoreg; Realtime OS for its ACTROS family of traffic light controllers.

ACTROS controllers bring an intelligent approach to managing urban traffic. They are designed to enhance safety, optimize the use of existing road infrastructure, and improve traffic flow to minimize carbon emissions. The product family includes ACTROS.compact, an energy-efficient device for smaller intersections and pedestrian crossings, and ACTROS.alpha, a scalable solution that can handle complex, multi-lane intersections with massive volumes of traffic.

When SWARCO was choosing an OS for ACTROS, reliability and safety were key mdash; the controllers must operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without downtime. The microkernel architecture of the QNX Neutrino OS, which offers inherent protection for safety-critical software components, enabled SWARCOrsquo;s engineers to achieve the fault resilience and high availability that ACTROS requires. Moreover, it will help ACTROS achieve certification to IEC 61508 functional safety standard.

Realtime performance was also a must. To ensure safe operation, SWARCO needed an OS that enables the time-critical applications in ACTROS to meet hard deadlines. The comprehensive realtime technologies in QNX Neutrino, together with the performance optimization tools of the QNX Momenticsreg; Tool Suite, helped SWARCOrsquo;s engineers achieve the fast response times needed to meet their rigorous system-performance target.

ldquo;For safetyrsquo;s sake, our systems must offer reliable, timely, uninterrupted service. The QNX Neutrino OS, with its robust architecture and proven history in safety-critical systems, offered an ideal platform to achieve these goals,rdquo; said Manfred Rosskopf, Director of Ramp;D, and Joachim Lock, Project Manager, SWARCO TRAFFIC SYSTEMS. ldquo;Just as important, QNX offers more than proven technology. We have worked with other OS vendors, and QNX stands out from the crowd with their commitment to customer success. They support us like a true partner, and we look forward to working with them on future projects.rdquo;

ldquo;For decades, QNX technology, chosen for its unmatched reliability, has been powering traffic control systems and other transportation applications for the automotive, marine, and railway industries,rdquo; said John Wall, Senior Vice President and Head of QNX Software Systems. ldquo;Optimizing traffic flow in busy urban areas is vitally important to driver safety, the economy, and the environment. We are honored that SWARCO has chosen QNX to address this critical challenge.rdquo;

27.06.2016 Debian: Reproducible builds update
A quick update to note that I did complete extra-cmake-modules and was given the green light to push upstream and in Debian and will do so asap. Due to circumstances out of my control, I am moving a few states over and will have to continue my efforts when I arrive at my new place of residence in a few days. Thanks for understanding. Scarlett
23.01.2017 Qt SCXML and State Chart Support in Qt Creator
Qt has provided support for state machine based development since introduction of Qt State Machine Framework in Qt 4.6. With the new functionality introduced in Qt 5.8 and Qt Creator 4.2 state machine based development is now easier than ever before. Qt 5.8 introduces fully supported Qt SCXML module that makes it easy to integrate SCXML based state machines into Qt. Previously SCXML has been imported to Qt from external tools, which is still possible. Now Qt Creator 4.2 introduces a new experimental visual state chart editor that allows creation and modification of state ch...

11.06.2008 Troy Unrau: Checking up on old articles, for shits and giggles; Praise for Polish Linux's KDE articles
So today I was reading the Polish Linux article, part of a series that is periodically covered KDE from SVN (to the delight and occasional flaming of many fans) and it reminded me of how I ended up with this Marketing thing in the first place. It's been just under a year since my last Road to KDE 4 articles went live, and for shits and giggles, I thought I'd revisit them to see what has held together through the last year, what ended up as vapour, and so forth -- For my amusement more than anything else, although it might be interesting to some. So I present...The Road [From] KDE 4[.0]My very ...
18.03.2008 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): magazine articles
Today I went for a morning walk. It's one of those wonderful little luxuries that comes with the beginning of Spring weather for me: enough warmth not to wonder what the hell I'm doing outside, enough daylight to tease out a smile. I popped by Beano's to grab a coffee then popped into the news and magazine store around the corner with my cup o' joe in hand.I picked up two magazines to bring home: one is a boring business magazine (ok, I don't find it boring, but I'm pretty sure most people reading this blog would ;) and the other is Linux Magazine. On the cover is Tux the penguin with a superm...
11.11.2008 David Nolden: C++ Code Completion rethought: KDevelop4 in action
From all the discussions I have had, I have learnt that there is two different types of users for Code Completion. For the first type, the code-completion is only there to speed up their typing. They think they don’t need to know what kind of items they are actually dealing with, because they think they know the library they’re working with. Then there is the second type: They want to use code-completion as a kind of inline documentation, for checking along the way that what they’re writing is actually correct, and additionally to speed up their writing. I count myself to the...
26.04.2008 Seb Ruiz (sebr): Open Tech Summit Taiwan - Day 1
Reporting from the luxuries of free Internet at our hostel in Taipei, Ian and I have been going over the talk that we’ll be giving on Amarok tomorrow at the Open Tech Summit here in Taiwan. The entire day today has been spent at the (very nice) Asus corporate headquarters - about 20 minutes on the metro ride outside of Taipei. The metro itself is a nice analogy to the Taiwanese people. Exceptionally efficient, very friendly and hospitable, immaculately clean and well thought out. Kudos to you, Taiwanese government. So friendly have the Taiwanese people been that I’ve been escorted ...
04.01.2010 Aaron Seigo (aseigo): ++2009;
The first decade of the millennium (by our calendars, anyways :) is officially over and we're all going to have to get used to writing 2010 on things. I spent the last couple of weeks of 2009 taking a few personal days around the holidays as well as considering where we, KDE, have been and where we might be going. I wrote some notes at the end of it, and I thought I'd share some of it with all of you.We accomplished a lot in the last year, both as a community as well as personally. I'll leave the personal events, positive and difficult, to those who were involved, but try and cover some of the...

Top 5 Planet V12n blog posts week 08 Creating a top 5 seems to be getting more difficult week after week. Not only does the quality of the blog articles increase, the amount of blogs listed on PlanetV12n and the amount of articles also increase steadily. off to work at the normal time. traffic was nice and light. poked at a few bugs in the graphical order entry system. fixed a few of them. home later than normal, trying to make up time for the long lunch I took yesterday.
