While preparing the slides I was in a constant wow mode. It is incredible what the Trolls added to Qt 4.4. It was probably a bit too much but it highlights what a team of excellent programmers can achieve when they focus on a common goal. Qt developers keep on rocking! It was nice to catch up with some of my fellow KDE developers, see some GNOME developers, talk with local developers. I think events like the Guadec are really helpful, not only you can catch up with developers from your village, but also to see people from othe...

06.09.2016 Akonadi/KMail issues on Tumbleweed? So if you, like me, have experienced how smoothly Akonadi deals with crashes and think it is still annoying, there's a solution. The problem is caused by Xapian which creates some nice backtraces but until it is fixed you are stuck with a crash every ~minute. The solution is in this email from Christian Boltz:I created a repo with the previous version of libxapian, and akonadi-* and baloo linkpac'd from Factory (so rebuilt against the old libxapian): https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:cboltz:branches:openSUSE:FactoryPackages at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/cboltz:/b...

15.05.2008 Gilles Caulier: digiKam running under eeePC Yesterday, i have recieve a private mail from an Italian photo-journalist named Claudio Giovannini who use digiKam under an Claudio use eeePC as a computer relay with photo agencies. He download pictures on the computer, mark files using IPTC, reduce image sizes, and sent files on the web by FTP. Sound like eeePC is a perfect compagnon for photo-journalists.
24.03.2008 John Layt: Easter progress on printng Well it's Easter, and rather than being somewhere warm or interesting (or both), I'm stuck here in cold and wet London. This is partly due to my own lack of organisation, but also due to some dodgy fraudster types who managed to clone my debit card and withdraw large sums of my cash from an ATM in Tunisia (I haven't even been there!). Ironic really, given the number of banking security projects I've worked on :-) Well the cash has been refunded, I've been waiting two weeks for the replacement card to arrive, and without easy access to cash I'm reluctant to board a plane or train to anywhere, ...
26.03.2008 Sune Vuorela (pusling): Slicehost– or why slicehost sucks. I recently got a slice at slicehost (A so called virtual server) and moved my various services over there. Mail, web, this blog and so on. I have now tried to request a additional IP, as I need a couple of services running on port 443. Apparantly their silly automatic processes includes rebooting *my* virtual server and nuking my changes to files inside *my* virtual server. Any places having a virtual private server which are run by *clueful* people without stupid automated processes? I guess it is time to move before my next payment. Angry.
08.02.2016 HIG about Simple vs. Advanced Settings KDE Project: UsabilityRecently the question was asked in the KDE forums how we handle advanced settings. While there is neither a best practice nor a common approach in KDE software, we actually discussed a similar concept in respect to the Plasma control modules (KCM). The updated organization of KCMs was implemented by the developers, the community decided about the basic layout, and a couple of proposals were done [1, 2]. So why don't generalize this idea and write a guideline? The following guideline proposal not only recapitulates what we considered for the KCM but also introduces some n...
