Luxoft Teams Up with QNX on Automotive ADAS Technologies

Unix News "Collaboration focused on advanced technologies, including road scene reconstruction and augmented navigation, which can enable semiautonomous driving.

December 15, 2015 Luxoft Holding, Inc. NYSE:LXFT, a leading provider of software development services and innovative IT solutions to a global client base, and QNX Software Systems Limited, a subsidiary of BlackBerry Limited, today announced a new technology partnership focused on ADAS systems used by automotive original equipment manufacturers OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

As part of the initiative, Luxoft will leverage its expertise in road-model based computer vision algorithms for tracking of objects such as vehicles, pedestrians, building facades, and road signs to bring a robust road scene reconstruction engine to the QNX OS platform. In working on the engine, Luxoft will utilize its proprietary CVNAR software framework, which incorporates solutions for augmented reality such as augmented guidance, navigation, points of interest POIs, and destination highlighting.

QNX is the leading solution provider in automotive infotainment, with its reliable operating system and middleware in more than 60 million vehicles, said Georg Doll, Managing Director of Luxoft Automotive. We are excited to work together with QNX on bringing innovative ADAS technology to global automakers and Tier 1 suppliers as they gear up for autonomous driving. At Luxoft, we have invested in the computer vision and augmented reality technologies that will not only enable the next generation of head-up displays, but also become a crucial element of an autonomous vehicle. Together with QNX Software Systems high availability OS, we can enable customers with critical components to build solutions that power the adoption of ADAS systems.

Luxoft has a broad portfolio of technologies well-suited to help automotive OEMs and Tier 1s as they progress from discrete ADAS implementations to more integrated solutions, said Andrew Poliak, Global Director of Business Development, QNX Software Systems. By working together, we will enable customers to leverage QNX OS technology that has a proven history of safety certifications a key requirement as ADAS systems perform higher levels of automation.

Luxofts CVNARTM, a computer vision and augmented reality software framework, brings together a unique set of features and capabilities and can be used in two different ways. It can be adapted to a particular OEMs requirements and present a ready-to-use solution on already supported systems-on-chip SoCs. Or it can be available as a hardware-independent embedded solution that utilizes both the CPU and the GPU. The CVNARTM framework can be easily integrated with heads-up and LCD displays, and supports smart glasses. Using eye-tracking algorithms and vehicles sensor data, the augmented navigation provides navigational hints, highlights road obstacles and destinations, and more.

QNX Software Systems offers a comprehensive portfolio of infotainment, telematics, safety, and acoustics solutions deployed in more than 60 million vehicles worldwide. More than 40 automotive OEMs use QNX software, including the QNX Neutrino OS, the QNX OS for Safety compliant to ISO 26262, up to Automotive Safety Integrity Level D, the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment, and QNX acoustics middleware, for their head units, digital instrument clusters, advanced driver information systems, hands-free systems, and connectivity modules.

05.01.2016 Use ownCloud provided Packages, then VM, then Zip, no distro packages.
There are many ways to install and run ownCloud. What is best depends on your situation but some general rules of thumb can be given.Use ownCloud Provided Packages If You CanThe best solution from a security and stability point of view are the official ownCloud packages, provided you have the basic know-how needed to run your own Linux server.Packages give you the advantage of a relatively clean and easy upgrade process, with the ownCloud team taking care of any special steps which have to be taken. The upgrade itself will still have to be kicked off by the system administrator (see our latest...
01.01.2017 Summary of 2016
So, 2016 has been a great year to me. Interesting in many aspects, but most has turned out to be for the better. I’ve gotten to know a bunch of awesome new people, I spoken about open source, Qt and Linux in Europe and USA, I’ve helped hosting an open source conference in Gothenburg, I’ve learned so much more professionally and as a person, and I’ve really enjoyed myself the whole time. 2016 was the year that… … myself and Jürgen where Qt Champions for our work with the qmlbook. It feels really great getting recognition for this work. I really want to ...

Google and VMware's "Open PaaS" Strategy - Posted by Steve Herrod Chief Technology Officer Wow… it has been an incredibly exciting, err, Spring for VMware's SpringSource division. In early April, we announced the acquisition of Rabbit Technologies, leaders of the open source RabbitMQ products used by thousands of customers for highly scalable, and reliable application messaging. In late April, we announced VMforce, a partnership between VMware and Salesforce.com to build an enterprise Java cloud with access to the vast data and great application services offered by the Force.c...
09.08.2012 Digia acquires part of Nokia’s Qt business
It was announced this morning that Digia Plc will acquire the “Qt software technologies and Qt business” from Nokia. This ends the recent uncertainty in the Qt community, something that should be beneficial for the Qt ecosystem and the Qt users worldwide, including KDAB’s customers, and hopefully ensures the continuity and sustained funding of Qt development. KDAB is the second largest contributor to Qt5 today, and others are also investing heavily. There are some more quite big organizations in the desktop, industrial automation, automotive, IPTV space and elsewhere which ar...

07.01.2010 Anne-Marie Mahfouf (annma): KDE-Edu: what's up in our team?
At the beginning of 2010, it's the perfect time for reflecting on the past year and make wishes for the new one so here I go with my analysis of KDE-Edu.Recent past In 2008 and 2009, things were slow: I was busy with my family and the 6 months release scheme did not allow me enough time to really get into a realease. Several KDE-Edu developers also slowed down at the same time, mainly also due to family life (several became new fathers, congratulations!) Since December 2007 I had no time to organize another meeting. The project still lived quite well on the development side: new developers joi...
23.11.2015 Game Art Quest Kickstarter!
Today an exciting new crowdfunding campaign kicks off! Nathan Lovato, the author of Game Design Quest, wants to create a new series of video tutorials on creating 2D game art with Krita. Nathan is doing this on his own, but the Krita project, through the Krita Foundation, really wants this to happen! Over to Nathan, introducing his campaign: “There are few learning resources dedicated to 2d game art. With Krita? Close to none. That is why I started working on Game Art Quest. This training will show you the techniques and concepts game artists use in their daily work. If you want to becom...
22.02.2016 Recent activities first
In my previous post, I’ve written about the new setup I use for activities, and that I have found out that I’m missing the feature of quickly switching back to the previous activity. I was planning to create a keyboard shortcut for this, but Johan Ouwerkerk had a better idea - that I should make the activity switcher behave like the window switcher (the Alt+Tab thingie) - that the activities should not be alphabetical, but that the most recent ones should go first. This way, switching to the previous activity is just a single Meta+Tab away. Details Now, while the above is the main ...

17.05.2016 Embrace Open Source culture: the 5 common transformations.
Article originally published at Linedin on May 15th 2016. This is a story of what I have lived or witnessed a few times so far. A story of an organization that used to consume, develop and ship proprietary software for many years. At some point in time, management took the decision of using Open Source. Like in most cases, the decision was forced by its customers, providers, competitors... and by numbers.A painful but unavoidable transformation was required.1.- Open Source consumerEngineers had to learn a new system, adapt or re-write those features that used to made the organization unique, t...
