QNX and AdasWorks Collaborate on Automated Driving Technology

Unix News "Companies integrating software technologies to enable intelligent, multi-camera surround-view systems.

Ottawa, Ontario and Budapest, Hungary December 10, 2015 QNX Software Systems Limited, a subsidiary of BlackBerry Limited, and AdasWorks, an innovative startup developing artificial intelligence-based software for automated driving, today announced a technology partnership focused on advanced driver assistance systems ADAS and autonomous vehicles.

As part of the new initiative, the companies are porting several AdasWorks functions, including lane detection, moving-object detection, and object classification, to QNX OS platforms. The goal is to create a software foundation for intelligent, multi-camera systems that enable automated driving by providing a 360-degree view of the area around the vehicle.

Next-generation automated driving applications, such as the intelligent object detection in a surround-view system, can provide enhanced comfort and safety. Through AdasWorks integration with QNX OS technology, our mutual partners and customers will be able to access a solution that complies with industry standards and safety requirements, said Laszlo Kishonti, Founder and CEO of AdasWorks. Building on our knowledge in computer vision and artificial intelligence, we are ready to take the next steps with QNX Software Systems, the leading experts in automotive embedded systems and safety-critical software platforms.

An OS with proven safety credentials is essential to any semi- or fully-autonomous vehicle, but the vehicle also needs to process a huge amount of information about the world around it, said Andrew Poliak, Global Director of Business Development, QNX Software Systems. Advanced, neural networks-based algorithms, combined with the right OS, can be key to interpreting and processing multi-camera and multi-sensor-based data efficiently. Together, AdasWorks and QNX technologies can enable the industry to implement automated driving features more quickly and cost effectively.

QNX Software Systems offers a comprehensive portfolio of infotainment, telematics, safety, and acoustics solutions deployed in more than 60 million vehicles worldwide. More than 40 automotive OEMs use QNX software, including the QNX Neutrino OS, the QNX OS for Safety compliant to ISO 26262, up to Automotive Safety Integrity Level D, the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment, and QNX acoustics middleware, for their head units, digital instrument clusters, advanced driver information systems, hands-free systems, and connectivity modules.

17.05.2016 Embrace Open Source culture: the 5 common transformations.
Article originally published at Linedin on May 15th 2016. This is a story of what I have lived or witnessed a few times so far. A story of an organization that used to consume, develop and ship proprietary software for many years. At some point in time, management took the decision of using Open Source. Like in most cases, the decision was forced by its customers, providers, competitors... and by numbers.A painful but unavoidable transformation was required.1.- Open Source consumerEngineers had to learn a new system, adapt or re-write those features that used to made the organization unique, t...
01.01.2017 Summary of 2016
So, 2016 has been a great year to me. Interesting in many aspects, but most has turned out to be for the better. I’ve gotten to know a bunch of awesome new people, I spoken about open source, Qt and Linux in Europe and USA, I’ve helped hosting an open source conference in Gothenburg, I’ve learned so much more professionally and as a person, and I’ve really enjoyed myself the whole time. 2016 was the year that… … myself and Jürgen where Qt Champions for our work with the qmlbook. It feels really great getting recognition for this work. I really want to ...
24.01.2010 Lim Yuen Hoe (moofang): The Web, the Desktop, and the Google between
I haven’t written a proper tech article since before I (re-)started this blog, so I thought it was high time. Besides, I’ve been wanting to write this post ever since I read some articles on Google’s Chrome OS, around the time right after my old blog vaporized. So there’s a couple of buzzwords to hopefully sucker you into clicking the ‘more’ button and actually reading the article – It’s about Google’s upcoming Chrome OS and it’s implications for the web, the desktop and the browser, as well as why desktop evolution can take an altern...
06.04.2008 Jason Kasper (vanRijn): Remote-Working Geeks, Unite!
I just sent off an e-mail about some of the challenges and surprises that I’ve hit as a Remote-Working Geek and it occurred to me that not only have I not blogged as of late (I suck, what can I say–but I have a list of like 10 things I need to blog about), but that the contents of my e-mail were downright blog-worthy. Here it is, minor edits notwithstanding: So… I’m not sure what your background is, but I came from 10+ years of in-corporate-office worker-ville. And there’s some things that I didn’t expect to be challenging that turned out to be, and there...

Top 5 Planet V12n blog posts week 25 The World Cup tournament just entered the knockout stage. Today England plays against Germany and I guess it is needless to say that I will be supporting England, or should I say "Engerland"? (Hey, no one loves their neighbours.) All of this has of course nothing to do with the reason I am writing this article. This article is about the top 5 Planet V12n articles of week 25. This week we've got a "newcomer", I guess this is my way of saying welcome William. Here we go: Kendrick Coleman - Why vSphere Needs NFSv4 If you are famili...

25.06.2008 Troy Unrau: A quick survey of KDE 4 Apps
So I spent the last few days rebuilding trunk and playing with some of the applications that don't ship on the same release cycles as KDE itself. Things like Amarok, KOffice, KTorrent, K3b, and more. So I figured I'd give a few comments on how the development of these things are going, especially KOffice 2. So, some thoughts on those applications that make the KDE environment the integrated, wonderful thing that a only full desktop environment can give.Amarok 2 gets enough press, they don't need me to talk up how the cover downloading works now, or how I actually have to come up with new ways ...

15.01.2009 Jos Poortvliet: How Cute of Nokia!
First of all, greetings from the beautiful country of Jamaica!!! I'm here to help prepare Camp KDE, and as such, enjoying good company and great weather...Yeah, about that company. I'm amazed by Jamaican hospitality. For me, dutch, being rather crude & simple folks, it makes me feel uncomfortable. My host gave me his bed, and made me breakfeast. Even cut the fruit in pieces - last person who did that whas my mom, and that was a long time ago. Hmmm. When I have a friend over, I trow a matress on the floor and tell him where the kitchen is... How's that for a different culture?!?And about the we...
01.05.2009 Thiago Macieira (thiago): Nokia Developer Summit 2009
As the Nokia Developer Summit 2009 wound down to a close, I spent a few minutes pondering what effect it had had. For those who didn’t know, the Summit was held on April 28 and 29 in Monaco and I had a chance to participate and present. Don’t worry, when I arrived on Monday, it was rainy and cold, so I had to spend time in my hotel room working And I did not lose any money in the casinos — nor won. I did have the time to take some pictures of where the Formula 1 Grand Prix will take place in a few weeks’ time. The subtitle of the summit was “Creating tomorrowR...
