13.05.2008 Fathi Boudra: a look at KDE 4 and Debian
So far, if you want to use KDE 4 under Debian, you need to install them from experimental. Under the ground, we prepared up-to-date packages from trunk (soon uploaded) and I took a snapshot of my current desktop:
21.08.2008 Ana Guerrero (ana): KDE 4.1 backported packages for Lenny
Now Lenny has been frozen for some time and the necessary packages have migrated to Lenny (that remember is still testing); I have finally made the backports of KDE 4.1.0. You can find the repository and the instructions at: http://kde4.debian.net/ And remember, KDE 4.1 is pretty good but it still has some issues that are little to little being fixed. Do no expect something so rock solid as KDE 3.5.x yet :)
19.07.2008 Ana Guerrero (ana): Debian packages for KDE 4.1, KOffice alpha9 and more
In the beginning of this week, KDE 4.1 RC 1 was released and, of course, there are Debian packages since the release day. The instructions I blogged about Debian KDE Team website has finally been updated, so you have even more useful information about NEW queue in Debian. I do not know when it will be available in the archive, but luckily current version of kdeplasmoids (post beta 2), works well with the RC 1 packages, you can use it until kdeplasmoids is accepted. The important part about RC 1 in Debian is we finally have kde4libs, kdepimlibs and kdebase-runtime in unstable, and they are mean...
06.11.2008 Paul Adams: KDE4 On Small Devices: Analysing Power Consumption
I have already mentioned that I'm doing a little research into KDE4 over LTSP and on small devices. This is a quick follow-up on the latter... First things first: the equipment in question here is an Acer Aspire One (A150L) and it is running Debian Lenny and KDE 4.1.2 from kde4.debian.net. I have also followed the advice given by "powertop" to decrease power consumption. Here is the result: Power drain on my Aspire One So on a full battery I'm being told the power drain is 12.9W leaving me 1.9 hours of portable processing fun. This seems about right - the Atom CPU draw 11.8W at peak and the sc...
26.01.2009 Ana Guerrero (ana): End of backports and about KDE in Lenny
About a week ago I updated the KDE 4.1 backports for Lenny with the fourth and last revision of KDE 4.1. As previously announced, this will be the last update available at http://kde4.debian.net What is next? The repository will continue there, so Lenny users can choose between KDE 3.5.9+ and KDE 4.1.4. But since 4.1.4 packages are not official, they do not have support: no bugs in the BTS or security updates. If you are using Debian Lenny for stability and security purposes, you should use KDE 3.5. Testing users (future squeeze, current Lenny) can continue using them until KDE 4.2 reaches tes...
03.04.2009 Ana Guerrero (ana): KDE 4.2 in unstable is coming
It was 2 years ago when we started working in KDE 4 packages, and exactly 20 months ago when we started uploading KDE 4.0.0 beta 1 to experimental. Finally, we are working in packages that are targeted to unstable o/. As announced in the users mailing list, we will be uploading KDE 4.2.2 to unstable in the next days, so look carefully at what you update :) We have worked very hard in providing a smooth upgrade, but given the change is so big, some new (little!) problems will be discovered. One of the most problematic points is we were using .kde4 to store user data and settings of KDE 4 and n...
14.04.2009 Christian Weilbach (whilo): intel and the effects
Preamble: Haven’t blogged for a *long* time now. I was a bit disappointed because many people don’t take the issues about google monopolizing the web and accumulating information very serious. So I got either not or misread with my long thought about critics for GSoC. But then maybe this is the wrong attitude for open source projects which are there to be creative and not really critical… I’ll post about my thoughts later, for those who are interested in general discussion (uuhhh this smells like the p* word (yes politics ;-)) I also have a imho very good idea in peto t...
29.07.2008 Началась заморозка релиза Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 "Lenny"
Марк Брокшмидт (Marc Brockschmidt) из команды разработчиков Debian GNU/Linux объявил о начале "заморозки" нового релиза дистрибутива (5.0), получившего кодовое название "Lenny"...
16.08.2008 Sune Vuorela (pusling): maemo + packaging + kde4
maemo sdk seems to come with a cdbs, debhelper and dpkg-dev too old to make it easy to build several debian unstable packages like kde4. maemo seems to come with glibc2.5 and debian/armel kde4 packages depends on 2.7 or greater. trying to build a newer dpkg in maemo environment requires several perl modules not available - and when buildling those, a circular build dependency is quickly reached. So - dear lazyweb, what does smart man do now?
18.05.2009 Sune Vuorela (pusling): Debian/KDE status
So. Finally, we got KDE 4 series in Debian/Testing, more accurate, KDE4.2.2. Thanks to the rest of the Debian/KDE team for working on this, including sitting on their hands when wanting to fix bugs, and a special thanks to the Debian Release team for making this happen. (PS.: and we beat gnome 2.26 in making it first to testing)
